Some of the postcard used by opponents in the Russian Correspondence Chess Association 5 year Jubilee Event commencing in 1998.
Pictured below is a small selection of the postcards-some are striking indeed with gigantic constructions which were not even known in the UK to exist. Note the scale versus the humans !
The postcard descriptions are dated from the 1960s and early 1970s but were only actually used 20 or 30 years later. This likely accounts for their poor state on arrival in England...as well as the curious fact that sometimes they arrived many weeks after they were posted. I was informed that in order to ensure payment due to the severe state of the Russian economy the Russian Postal service would shunt the mail train into distant rail yards until that actually occurred!
Throughout a few of the UK postmen who dlivered them, and who knew a little of chess but less of the Russian language were intregued !
